Meet The Team
Karen Natkin
Founder & Principal
Karen founded Moonstone Asset Management in 2008 with a conviction born from personal experience: that independent investors deserve the same caliber of counsel once reserved for institutions — delivered by an advisor with no conflicts, no proprietary products, and no agenda.
Her path to founding Moonstone was unconventional. After pivoting from an early career in fashion, Karen found herself as a newly single mother — and realized that financial self-reliance wasn't optional. That clarity of purpose led her first to entrepreneurship, where she grew and ultimately sold a successful franchise business, and in parallel, began building her own investment portfolio using the same analytical lens she applied to running a company: growing revenues, strong margins, and healthy cash flows.
By the time the business was sold, Karen had found her calling. She spent the years before founding Moonstone immersed in the investment world, drawing on close relationships with colleagues running hedge funds and institutional books of business. The most important lesson: truly neutral, conflict-free financial advice is rare — and that scarcity represented both a problem worth solving and an opportunity.
Moonstone launched with a handful of clients and a single mission: to make sophisticated, independent wealth management accessible to families who deserved better than the wirehouse model. Today the firm serves over 100 households across the full arc of financial life.
Karen's expertise spans holistic wealth management, multigenerational planning, estate preparation, business transitions, and the behavioral dimensions of long-term investing that are so often overlooked.
She has been a proud resident of Highland Park, Illinois for over 25 years. Outside the office, she treasures time with her husband, grandchildren and her beloved cat, Ollie.
Debra Meyer
Managing Director
Debra joined Moonstone in 2018 with a career built at the intersection of business strategy and finance. Before transitioning to investment management, Debra worked at Huron Consulting Group as a management consultant specializing in workforce optimization. She then joined Grubhub, a fast-growing startup, in a role spanning strategy, operations, and financial planning. These experiences gave her a ground-level understanding of how businesses grow, where capital gets allocated, and what disciplined financial decision-making looks like in practice.
That operational fluency informs everything about how Debra invests. She earned her M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and holds a Series 65 license as a registered investment advisor.
At Moonstone, Debra focuses on clients who are building and preserving wealth — professionals, executives, and individuals who want a disciplined, fundamentals-driven approach to investment management without unnecessary complexity. Her style is direct and grounded: she doesn't chase trends, doesn't overcomplicate, and believes that clarity and consistency are the foundation of long-term financial success.
She holds a B.A. from Vanderbilt University. Outside the office, she is kept busy by two small kids and two large golden retrievers.
